As expected, the Sabres select Owen Power with the top pick

The Buffalo Sabres made the pick that we’ve expected for the last few months. They selected defenseman Owen Power. The big defender has a high ceiling but still needs to work on things in his game.

It’s hard to pass on a defenseman with his size that can move like Power. He projects as someone that can play in all situations and be a top pair defender down the road.

It’s likely that he’ll head back to the University of Michigan next season for his sophomore season. That’s probably the best path for Power and the Sabres. It allows him to go play on a good Michigan team and work on parts of his game.

The Sabres can then work on building their team so that he’ll be put into a good situation when he does come out of college in the 2022-23 season.

Don’t forget, because of the Rasmus Ristolainen trade the Sabres are back up on the board with the 13th pick.
