Sabres Prep Roster for Sweden Trip

Buffalo Sabres v Detroit Red Wings

The Buffalo Sabres have announced several roster moves ahead of the team’s trip to Sweden for the NHL Global Series, where they’ll face off against the Tampa Bay Lightning later this week.

Defenseman Lawrence Pilut has been recalled from the Rochester Americans. He’ll serve as an extra defender on the trip, which gives him the chance to head home to his native Sweden. It’s unlikely that he’ll actually find a slot into the lineup, but still offers him a neat opportunity to travel overseas with the NHL club.

Pilut has recorded six points (1-5) in eight games with the Amerks this season.

In a corresponding move, Marco Scandella has been placed on injured reserve. Scandella suffered a lower-body injury in late October.

Finally, the Sabres have recalled goaltender Andrew Hammond from the Amerks. Hammond will travel with the NHL club to Sweden as a third-string goaltender. Again, like Pilut, he isn’t expected to slot into the lineup, but is along for the ride in case of illness, injury or the like.

Hammond has appeared in eight games this season with the AHL club. He’s recorded a 5-1-2 record with a .892 save percentage and 2.92 goals-against average.

The Sabres kick off the NHL Global Series on Friday, November 8, when they’ll serve as the “home” team for a 2 p.m. ET face-off at Ericsson Globe in Stockholm. The two teams reconvene on Saturday, November 9 at 1 p.m. ET.

Friday’s game will be televised nationally in the United States on NBCSN, while Saturday’s game is on MSG (and nationally on NHL Network.)
