World Junior Recap: USA and Finland move on to the Gold Medal game

Today is the final day of the 2019 U20 World Junior Championship in Vancouver, Canada. All three medals will be handed out tonight. The Russian’s will face the Swiss for the Bronze Medal. Team USA will meet Finland in the Gold Medal game with three Buffalo Sabres prospects playing in the game.

Denmark vs Kazakhstan | Relegation Round (Kazakhstan wins series 2-0)

Final: Kazakhstan 4, Denmark 0

Kazakhstan Goal Scorers: Sayan Daniyar, Davyd Makutski, and Artur Gatiyatov (2)

Denmark Goal Scorers: None

As a result of this outcome, Denmark will drop down in the B-league and Kazakhstan will compete in the tournament again next year.

Russa vs USA | Semifinals

Final: USA 2, Russia 1

USA Goal Scorers: Oliver Wahlstrom (Islanders) and Sasha Chmelevski (Sharks)

Russia Goal Scorers: Grigori Denisenko (Panthers)

Team USA got up 2-0 in the game and held on after a strong performance from goaltender and Montreal Canadiens prospect Cayden Primeau. Mattias Samuelsson played 17:25 and was alright in the game.

Finland vs Switzerland | Semifinals

Final: Finland 6, Switzerland 1

The Finns jumped out to a 3-0 lead less than three minutes into the game. They cruised to victory from that point on. Oskari Laaksonen played well again in 22:44 of ice time. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 16 saves and was named one of the top-three players of the tournament for Finland.
