The Buffalo Sabres announced this afternoon that they’ve recalled forwards Alex Nylander and Kevin Porter from the Rochester Americans.
Porter is the surprise call-up of the two. The 32-year-old has played 249 career NHL games. He’s scored 16 goals and recorded 40 points in 64 games as the captain of the Amerks this season.
Nylander is the call up that will get fans excited. This is the first recall this season for the 2016 first-round pick. He started off the season slow after missing nearly two months with a lower-body injury that was suffered during the Prospects Challenge.
Over the last month, he’s picked up his game and production. He has seven goals and 26 points in 49 games this season in the AHL. In the last 10 games, he’s picked up two goals and six points in one of his better stretches this season.
We’ll see what the three-game look will do for the 20-year-old Swede before he goes back to the Amerks for the Calder Cup Playoffs.
