The season ended today for Buffalo Sabres prospects Rasmus Asplund and Victor Olofsson. Both players had their team eliminated from the SHL playoffs.
Asplund and Farjestad lost 5-2 today to Skelleftea. They fell behind 3-0 in the series and fought to get it back to a Game 6 today.
Olofsson and Frolunda fell 4-2 today at the hands of Malmo. They dropped the series 4-2 as well. Not only is the season over for Olofsson, but 2018 top draft pick Rasmus Dahlin had his season end as well as a member of Frolunda.
Olofsson led the SHL this season in goals with 27 goals. He had a total of 43 points in 50 games. The 2014 seventh-round pick of the needs to sign a contract now or he’ll become an unrestricted free agent and the Sabres lose his rights.
Sabres General Manager Jason Botterill indicated his desire to sign the 22-year-old winger and get him to Rochester to continue his development.
Asplund, on the other hand, isn’t a sure thing to come over to North America. His contract with Farjestad is up but is not out of the question for him to remain in the SHL for one more season. We’ll see how things shake out with the Sabres 2016 second round pick.
