Recap: Sabres Lose in a Goaltending Duel

A goaltending duel broke out and the Sabres dropped their third straight in a 1-0 loss to the Blues

A goaltending duel broke out between the Buffalo Sabres and St. Louis Blues tonight in at KeyBank Center. Robin Lehner and Carter Hutton were at the top of their throughout the night making some very impressive saves.

We’ll jump right to the third period where the first and only goal was scored. Lehner had some big saves on Vladimir Tarasenko and Brayden Schenn to keep the game scoreless early in the period.

Hutton made a few saves of his own in the third. Including a quick reaction save to stuff Ryan O’Reilly on the doorstep.

Carl Gunnarsson opened the scoring with 5:42 left in the third. His point shot goes through traffic and went off the crossbar and in.

The Sabres had a few near misses in the final two minutes of the game. The first appeared like a certain goal off the stick of Sam Reinhart on the power play. However, Hutton managed to get a toe on the puck to keep it out.

Then with 3.4 seconds left in the game, Ramsus Ristolainen ripped a shot off the iron for another missed opportunity and the Sabres dropped their third straight 1-0.

Played a good game but...

…goalie made a huge difference. Lehner lets one in late. Hutton was exceptional.
