The Buffalo Sabres announced this afternoon that star center Jack Eichel is out indefinitely with a high-ankle sprain. He suffered the injury in the first period of last nights game against the Boston Bruins. He got tangled up behind the net with Bruins defenseman Matt Gryzlak and fell awkwardly.
At best case scenario the 21-year-old is looking at missing four to six weeks. Eichel missed roughly six weeks to start the 2016-17 season when he was hurt in practice the day before opening night.
If he doesn’t play again this season he’ll end the year with 22 goals and 53 points in 55 games. The Sabres will have a huge hole in their lineup and will be missing the key piece in their offense for most if not all of the remaining 27 games.
This is another tough blow for fans who are already battling through a difficult hockey season in Buffalo.
