Sabres returned defenseman Matt Tennyson to the Amerks

NHL: Preseason-Buffalo Sabres at Pittsburgh Penguins Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Sabres announced this morning that they assigned defenseman Matt Tennyson back to Rochester Amerks of the AHL.

It’s no secrect that the 28-year-old struggled in his four games with the Sabres this season.

It was particularly bad against the Washington Capitals on Saturday when he played a little over nine minutes and was on the ice for three goals against.

Phil Housley no longer has confidence in Tennyson and the Sabres had to recall Brendan Guhle to play last night in Boston.

This is probably a good indication one of their injured defensemen is close to returning. Jake McCabe, Casey Nelson, Nathan Beaulieu, and Lawrence Pilut are all on the shelf with injuries.

The Sabres currently have six healthy defensemen and are back in action tomorrow night against the Florida Panthers.
