The Buffalo Sabres announced this morning they’ve recalled top defensive prospect Brendan Guhle and top goaltending prospect Linus Ullmark from the Rochester Amerks.
This is Ullmark’s second call-up this season. He was just named to the AHL All-Star game last week with the excellent season he’s having with the Amerks. We’ll see if Ullmark is just up for practice or will stay for tomorrow’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.
Robin Lehner took a shot high in the game against the Philadelphia Flyers yesterday and was not on the ice for practice today.
Guhle’s call-up is the one that really has everyone’s attention. With how well Rochester is playing, it wasn’t expected Guhle would get called up this season or at least this early.
Also, until a roster move is made the Sabres are currently carrying nine defenseman on the roster. Victor Antipin still remains out with the flu, but you have to wonder if there’s more to the story with him. He hasn’t practiced for little over a week now and hasn’t played since the 19th of December. Definitely, something to keep an eye on.
Guhle is having a good rookie season with the Amerks. He has seven goals and 20 points in 35 games this season in the AHL. The 20-year-old isn’t here as just a practice participant. Line rushes at practice this morning seem to indicate he’ll make his season debut tomorrow against the Jets.

We’ll wait for more updates after practice from Phil Housley.
