Sabres sweep their western Canada road trip with a 4-0 win over the Vancouver Canucks

The Buffalo Sabres have their first three-game winning streak of the 2017-18 season with their 4-0 win over the Vancouver Canucks last night. They also swept their western Canada road trip. Winning the three games by a combined score of 11-1 and ending it with back to back shutouts.

The Sabres kept things rolling early last night. Vancouver native Sam Reinhart continued his suddenly hot play. He scooped up a loose puck and put it by Canucks goaltender Jakob Markstrom for a 1-0 lead.

After the Sabres controlled the first period, the Canucks pushed back a little in the middle frame. Robin Lehner stood tall to maintain the one-goal lead.

A little over halfway through the period the Sabres got on the board again. The Canucks committed a bad turnover at the Sabre blue line and Evan Rodrigues began a quick transition in the other direction. Nick Baptiste finished off the play with a nice move in alone on Markstrom for his first goal of the season.

In the final 20, the Sabres did a good job containing the pressure of the Canucks and Lehner was there to make the save when it did break down. They sealed the game late in the third with another power-play goal. Kyle Okposo tapped in a puck that squeezed through Markstrom to put the Sabres up 3-0 with three minutes left.

For good measure just over a minute later, Johan Larsson picked up his second empty net goal of the season to make the final 4-0.
