The Buffalo Sabres announced this morning that forward Nicholas Baptiste has been assigned to the Rochester Amerks of the AHL. Baptiste was one of a few players remaining who were battling for one of the final roster spots in the bottom six.
The former third-round pick had an outside shot of making the roster entering training camp, but didn’t do enough to make an impression on the new coaching staff. The future is still bright for Baptiste, however. After a strong season in the minors last year, he’ll have the opportunity to get a shot with the Sabres if he starts off hot. His speed and scoring ability is something that can’t be overlooked.
Only 32 players remain on the roster with one more preseason game left tomorrow against the New York Islanders. We’ll see who the final cuts are as the Sabres need to get down to 23 by opening night.
