It’s the penultimate weekend in June, it’s the last day of school for most Western New York teachers, and that means it’s finally time for the 2016 NHL Draft!
The Buffalo Sabres hold the eighth overall selection, and will have their pick of talented forwards to choose from. For those hoping for a defenseman...well, that might be a little more difficult, with the clear-cut top two expected to go before pick eight. But this is the draft, and crazy things are bound to happen, so you never know who might be available.
This will also be a crazy draft for the Vegas Golden Knights, who own picks #6, #13, and #15. For the first time, there will be 31 picks in the first round, and there’s rumors floating around out there that Vegas may look at moving as high as #1 to start their inaugural season off with a bang.
Tonight will feature those 31 first round picks, and will take an inordinately long amount of time, followed by Rounds 2-7 tomorrow, which will go by so fast you’ll feel like we’re moving at Ludicrous Speed.

Join us at 6pm for our open thread, and give us your final predictions on what the Sabres do tonight in the comments. We went with Cale Makar in our SBN Mock Draft, but it doesn’t look like he’ll make it out of the top three, let along to #8. Who might be there that the Sabres could take?
