Grading the Buffalo Sabres - Inauspicious start to 2017-18 season

Three games into the season and the takes are already red-hot

NHL: Preseason-Toronto Maple Leafs at Buffalo Sabres Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The new season is here, and it already appears to be the same old Buffalo Sabres three games in. Having a new coach behind the bench that features only half of last season’s roster attributed to much of that, though the sheer number of turnovers can be blamed on the players’ lack of game sense.

How did you see the first week unfold? There’s certainly a tough week in store for the dejected players and coach (and fans too!) as they now head off to the West Coast for what will not be an easy jaunt.

This week’s grades will also throw some interesting quandaries, as the players with the worst +/- are in some cases the best Corsi For players on the team too.

Like last season, we’ve got all the forwards and defensemen who played over the past week in the grading.

We’re sticking with the Corsi For % as well the stats beyond just the goals, assists and +/-. For Phil Housley we also have the team’s overall Corsi For % as a measurable stat.

Rate the players’, PP, PK and coach’s performances for these games -

Buffalo Sabres 2-3 Montreal Canadiens (SO)

New York Islanders 6-3 Buffalo Sabres

Buffalo Sabres 2-6 New Jersey Devils
