NHL preseason games have begun so this tournament falls to the background a bit, but expect some great hockey to be played as the World Cup of Hockey comes to it’s conclusion over the next few days.
Team Canada swept all before them, beating Team Europe 4-1, Team USA 4-2 and then Team Czech Republic 6-0 to romp into the semis. Europe bounced back after their opening game loss, outlasting the Czechs 3-2 in overtime and then overwhelming a sad USA 3-0 to finish second in the group.
In the semi-finals, Canada once again prevailed, beating Team Russia 5-3 while Europe again needed overtime, this time to beat Team Sweden who had won the other group.
The Buffalo Sabres have one player left in the tournament - center Ryan O’Reilly. There are some former Sabres on the European roster - Thomas Vanek, Christian Ehrhoff, Andrej Sekera and the starting goalie Jaroslav Halak (for a brief minute or so).
