Group A teams faced off yesterday to get the World Cup of Hockey tournament started. In the earlier game Team Europe thumped Team USA 3-0 as the Americans failed to get going. The Europeans showed plenty of patience to hit their opponents on the counter attack to put the game away well before the third period.

Later in the evening, Team Canada thrashed Team Czech Republic 6-0 to set up a fascinating clash on Monday against the desperate USA who will be facing elimination.

Today, the four teams in Group B join the action. First Sweden goes head-to-head against an offensively-gifted Russia, and then the team everyone’s waiting to watch, North America composed of the USA and Canada’s best under-23 talent, take on another strong team, Finland.

In a short tournament of this nature, there is no room for error in the group games and all four teams will be keen to start fast and get points in the bag.
