First of all let me start off with an apology for slacking off on these posts. You all have been great about doing the player grades polls on Sundays/Mondays whenever I put them up, but I have been slower than Josh Gorges back-checking on an odd-man rush in getting to compile the results, by which time the results are mostly irrelevant as a lot more has happened.
Second - here are all the weekly reports compiled into one spreadsheet for those who want to go back and find those miserable weeks when we scored less than a goal a game.
The turnout has been at about the 100 range, a lot of that early-season enthusiasm has waned but hopefully now that Jack Eichel is back, the trickledown effect will bring some of you shy readers back into the fold.
The votes have been counted and recounted, and here are your Buffalo Sabres three stars and three goats from the last week of hockey (in alphabetical order) -
Robin Lehner (2GP, 1W, 0L, 1SOL, 1.44GAA, 0.945SV%)
3.76 - Lehner looked really good last week, and even though he continues to look ‘scrambly’ at times on his side-to-side movement.
Kyle Okposo (3GP, 1G, 2A, -1, 42.22%)
3.56 - Can you imagine how awful the Sabres would have really been if we hadn’t signed ‘Ox’ in the offseason and with all the injuries we’ve had?
Sam Reinhart (3GP, 1G, 2A, +1, 58.73%)
3.71 - Rino has disappeared for periods at a time, but has also been quietly playing very well, and the advanced stats back that up. The return of Eichel should really fire him up.
Is it appropriate that the three goats are the three ‘G’s?
Zemgus Girgensons (3GP, 0G, 0A, +/-0, 40.00%)
1.76 - The Latvian Locomotive is barely a playground choo-choo train nowadays, and is probably closer to being a healthy scratch than we’d think.
Josh Gorges (3GP, 0G, 0A, -2, 49.52%)
2.09 - See two tweets below.
Man. Josh Gorges. -12 RelCorsi% and playing almost 20-minutes a night? That is ... that is something I haven't seen frequently...— Travis Yost (@travisyost) November 27, 2016
@travisyost Looks like we made enough noise to get through to Bylsma, finally!— Calvin (@Mr_Faded_Glory) November 30, 2016
Derek Grant (3GP, 0G, 0A, -1, 50.00%)
2.13 - The only reason he’s still playing in Buffalo and not Rochester is cos his 53.8% win rate is 33rd in the NHL (for players with more than 100 faceoffs) right.. right?
