Babcock reportedly leaning towards short-term deal with Detroit

The coach is expected to make his decision by tomorrow.

The Mike Babcock saga will likely come to an end tomorrow, and it seems that Sabres fans may not be too happy with the result. The sought after coach is leaning towards returning to Detroit on a short-term deal according to Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star.

This is supported my TSN's Bob McKenzie, who tweeted "As an analyst, based on what we've seen/heard, the prevailing sentiment is Babcock will stay in DET. That appears to be conventional wisdom." However, he did leave the door open for Buffalo. "But I have to tell you, based strictly on not much more than instincts, I could see Babcock ending up in BUF. Like I said, just a hunch."

Babcock is expected to meet with Red Wings GM Ken Holland today before making his decision. Both the Sabres and Toronto are able to match his salary demands, over $3 million a year, according to McGran. According to Frank Seravelli of the Philadelphia Daily News the Sabres are offering over $6 million a year. However, the lack of Babcock's ability to win immediately with the Sabres could be costly for Buffalo.
