Contract: $675,000 last season, RFA this summer
Report Card Grade in 2012: 6 out of 10
Introduction: Jhonas Enroth did not have a good season previous to this. Coming in to this campaign, Enroth had not recorded a win since Nov. 26, 2011. It took him until March 12, 2013 to get his first W in the books this season, though he finished a respectable 4-4-1 in nine starts.
Ron Rolston seemed to have more trust in Enroth than Lindy Ruff did, and he may need to trust him even more next season with the possibility of Ryan Miller being moved. So can we learn anything from Enroth's season that might help us determine if he's ready for a starting role?
Key Stat: Straight from NHL.com - Over his final six starts of the season, Enroth compiled a record of 4-1-1 with a 1.47 goals against average and .956 save percentage
And therein lies the big question with Enroth - he's flashed the talent to be a very good goaltender in the NHL over the past few years, but can he be consistent enough to rely upon over the course of a full season? Is he the guy who accumulated the sparkling .956 save percentage in his last six starts, or is he the guy who could win a game for over a full calendar year? The answer is likely somewhere in the middle, as it always is, but it's one the Sabres need to figure out with Jhonas's contract up this summer.
Thumbs Up: Enroth even strength save percentage - .931 - and power play save percentage - .878 - were both good this year, and higher than Ryan Miller's. He's a strong starter, giving up just three goals in the first period all season. Was the only Sabres goalie to earn a shutout this season, with one.
Thumbs Down: As strong as his starts are, Enroth gave up twelve goals each in the second and third periods. Struggled mightily against Northeast opponents, with his save percentage plummeting to .886 against divisional foes. Did not win his first game until March.
Voting: Using the good old grade school system of A, B, C, D, F, with a A representing a great season, C an average season, and F a very poor season, grade Jhonas Enroth on his performance this year according to the expectations you had for him.
