Report Card for 2012: N/A
Introduction: Adam Pardy was viewed as a throw-in to the Roy-Ott trade last season, a player included mostly as a salary dump for Dallas. Pardy has proved throughout his career that he can be a serviceable NHL defenseman, but hasn’t yet elevated his game beyond that.
This season, Pardy spent time bouncing between Buffalo and Rochester, popping up now and then to help a depleted Buffalo blueline get through some injury problems. Did his season stand out in any way, or did Pardy do anything to prove he belongs in the NHL full-time? Like Diglett, let’s dig deep and find out.
Key Stat: Adam Pardy’s name can be used in all types of puns and references, narrowly beating out Jochen Hecht and Steve Ott. For example, you’ve got Pardy Time, Pardy Rock (Is In The House Tonight), It’s Time To Pardy, and Pardy People, to name a few.
This fact is the key stat because, well, everything Pardy did this season in Buffalo or Rochester is basically unremarkable in every way, especially when judged against your expectations for Adam Pardy. He’s right in the middle of just about every team or individual stat, and didn’t really stand out in a good or bad way anywhere. His steadiness combined with his just good enough talent made him a perfect 6/7/8 defenseman for the Sabres this season.
Thumbs Up: Pardy finished with the second highest +/- on the team at +4, the best of his career in that flawed stat. His four points in 17 NHL games was right in line with his typical offensive production. Was in the group of players who averaged more than one hit per game, and was just one short of dong the same with blocked shots, which is smaller than you’d think.
Thumbs Down: The coaching staff obviously still doesn’t trust Pardy to be more than a third pairing defenseman, and he finished 8th among d-men in average TOI, and receives almost no power play time and little shorthanded time. His 13-3 giveaway-to-takeaway ration was not good. He was one of the players who posted significantly worse stats against the terrible Southeast division.
