2013 Buffalo Sabres Report Card: Drew Stafford
The Buffalo Sabres 2013 season began with high expectations, and ended with nothing but empty Twitter fights atop a smoldering pile of ashes. Now that we've had some time to reflect, we're here to grade every player who wore the blue and gold this season, from Adam to Weber.
Contract: Signed through 2014-2015 season
Report Card for 2012: 6 out of 10
Introduction: Drew Stafford has to be the most disappointing player on the Sabres roster this season. The Sabres had high hopes that Stafford would be able to bounce back to the player he was in 2010-2011 when he scored a career high 31 goals in only 62 games played. That wasn't to be as Stafford has his worst statistical season since joining the Sabres.
Key Stat: There are plenty of advanced stats that I could throw out to show you how poorly Stafford played this season, but it his six goals that stand out above everything else. Stafford was signed to a multi-year deal to produce offense and that did not happen this season.
Thumbs Up: There were very few positives for Stafford this season. After searching through stats from a number of sites, I finally settled on a thumbs up for Drew Stafford. Way back in the Sabres opening win of the season, Stafford challenged Scott Hartnell to fight after Hartnell sent Tyler Ennis into the boards head first. Props to Stafford for sticking up for a teammate. He did the same for Drury when Neal Hit him.
Thumbs Down: The entire season was a thumbs down for Drew Stafford. He had some bad stats in numerous areas, but nothing was more glaring than his Goals Against per 60 minutes. The Sabres allowed 2.94 goals against for every 60 minutes that Stafford was on the ice. Only Hodgson and Vanek were worse than Stafford in this category. Vanek and Hodgson made up for it by being the leaders on the team in Goals for/ 60 minutes. Stafford was one of the worst in that category as well.
Voting: Using the good old grade system of A, B, C, D, F, with A representing a great season, C an average season, and F a very poor season, grade Drew Stafford on his performance this season compared to the expectations you had for him.
What grade would you give Drew Stafford for the 2012-2013 season?
A | 1 |
B | 5 |
C | 14 |
D | 101 |
F | 182 |
