2013-14 Buffalo Sabres Report Cards: Alexander Sulzer
The Buffalo Sabres 2013-14 season was one of the worst in franchise history, and now it's time to take a look at who made it all possible. We're grading everybody who played at least 20(ish) games for the Sabres this year, from Conacher to Weber.
Contract: UFA (signed for $725,000 this year)
Report Card Grade in 2013: B- (link here)
Introduction: Alexander Sulzer is two of my favorite things in life: a Ginger and a German. Unfortunately, these two things alone do not a good hockey player make. This wasn't one of Sulzer’s best seasons, being plagued by injury (23 games total: 16 due to concussion, 5 due to an upper body injury, and 2 with an undisclosed ailment) and time in the AHL. Sulzer, who was also part of the Kassian/Marc-Andre Gragnani deal with the Vancouver Canucks, signed a 5-year deal with Kolner Hale on May 1.
Key Stat: Sulzer scored both of his points on a Thursday.
Thumbs Up: In 10 games with the Amerks, Sulzer tallied 7 points – two goals and five assists. Yup. That’s what I’ve come up with.
Thumbs Down: In 25 games with the Sabres, he netted two assists and a LOT of TOI. I pay attention to hockey games, I really do. I cannot honestly think of anything memorable that Sulzer did this season, and that’s a gosh darn shame.
Memorable Moment: ................
Voting: We're grading on a curve this year, adjusting for the Sabres organizational ineptitude. So, using the good old grade school system of A, B, C, D, F, with A representing a great season (for the Sabres) C an average season, and F a very poor season (again, for the worst team in the league) grade Alexander Sulzer on his performance this year.
