Corey Tropp Suffers Damage To ACL, MCL; Will Undergo Season-Ending Knee Surgery

New, comments

Corey Tropp played just one game and scored two goals for the Rochester Americans before his season came to a disappointing end.

Kevin Hoffman-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The first bad news of the season (aside from the whole lockout thing) hit Buffalo Sabres fans today - Corey Tropp will soon undergo season-ending knee surgery.

Tropp injured his knee in the Amerks season opener and suffered damage to both his anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments. Prior to the injury, he looked great on a line with Cody Hodgson and Luke Adam and had already potted two goals. It's a tough blow for an Amerks team that was counting on Tropp to be one of their top performers this season.

The injury also comes as a tough blow for the Sabres. Tropp was expected to be a fixture in the blue and gold's bottom six this season, having earned a spot last year with his combination of hard-nosed play and halfway-decent talent. Even if/when the lockout comes to an end, he will be missed on a team that was looking for him to be one of their young infusions of talent/grit.

Here's what Tropp himself had to say about it earlier today:

Indeed it is, Corey. indeed it is.
