2012 NHL Draft: Sabres Select Jake McCabe In Round 2

With the 44th pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, the Buffalo Sabres have selected Jake McCabe, a defenseman from the University of Wisconsin.

McCabe is a Wisconsin native who shoots lefthanded, stands 6’1, 200lbs, and tallied 3-9-12 with 12 PIM in 26 games during his freshman year with the Badgers, for whom he intends to play for again next year.

Here’s what Hockey’s Future has to say about the young American:

For such a young player, McCabe thinks the game remarkably well. He possesses excellent vision and anticipates/follows play quite well. While his decision-making does need to improve, it should come with development and maturity. What makes McCabe so effective in defensive situations are his stick work and grit. Another notable characteristic of McCabe’s is his skating. He has good agility and moves well both north-south and laterally.

The Sabres next pick will be in Round 3, pick 73.
