We have been waiting five days for this series to get started, and its finally time for this to actually start. The Buffalo Sabres will take on hated rival Philadelphia Flyers for the ninth time in the franchise's history in the playoffs. The Sabres and Flyers met four times in the regular season with each team taking two games a piece. The Flyers took the first two games while the Sabres took the last two games.
The Sabres are led on offense by Nathan Gerbe against the the Flyers this season. Gerbe had three goals and one assist in four games against the Flyers this season. Thomas Vanek led the team in points in the season series against the Flyers, with seven total points.
The Flyers were led by Daniel Briere who had three goals and five assists in the four games against the Sabres this season. He was talking with the media in this morning's pregame skate and had this to say about motivation against the Sabres in the playoffs:
"The people that didn't want me there are gone, so there's not really any animosity in that regard," he said in regard to former owners Tom Golisano and Larry Quinn. "There's a little extra motivation, I guess. That's easy to find. But it doesn't really matter when you start the playoffs. ... It doesn't matter who you play. The motivation's going to be there no matter what, so I'm definitely excited about it."
Briere will be one of the players to watch on the Flyers offense if the Sabres want to win this game. The Flyers have a dangerous offense but the Sabres have good goaltending in Ryan Miller. The winner of this series is going to play the best goaltending and the Sabres still have that edge.
