The Buffalo Sabres are coming down the home stretch with just five games left in the month of April. The Sabres are sitting in seventh place in the Eastern Conference two points behind the Montreal Canadiens and tied with the New York Rangers with a game in hand. The Sabres will have two back to back weekends in the month and two home games compared to three away games. A quick look at the schedule is below:

Date Opponent
4/2 @ Washington
4/3 @ Carolina
4/5 vs. Tampa Bay
4/8 vs. Philadelphia
4/9 @ Columbus

The Sabres start the month with a matchup against the Washington Capitals, a team that the Sabres have lost to two of three times this season. The Sabres lone win came on November 13th, a 3-2 overtime victory at home. The Sabres turn around and head down to Carolina to play the Hurricanes less than 24 hours later. The Sabres have lost to the Hurricanes in each of the last two games in the last month. If everything goes correctly on Saturday, the Sabres could feasibily eliminate the Hurricanes with a regulation win on Sunday.

The Sabres finish up their homestand with two games against the Lightning and the Flyers before heading to Columbus to end the season. The Sabres have lost two of three against the Lightning, but their last matchup was a 7-4 victory which saw the Sabres score five times in the third period to take the win on the road. The same situation happens with the Flyers, the Sabres have lost the first two games against the Flyers this season but took the last matchup with a 5-3 win in Philadelphia.

The Sabres still control their own destiny with making the playoff and if the team finishes the month with a winning record, they will make the playoffs with relative ease. If everything falls correctly this weekend, they could have wrapped up a playoff berth by Monday. Here are the Sabres chances of making the playoffs with the five most likely finishes according to Sports Club Stats:

Record Chance of Making Playoffs
4-1 In
3-1-1 99.9%
3-2 99.5%
2-2-1 93.9%
2-3 85.8%

So, what do you think. How will the Sabres finish the month of April?
