A few hours after it was announced that French Connection winger Rick Martin passed away, the Buffalo Sabres played a game against the Ottawa Senators. The Sabres pulled off a 6-4 victory over the Senators for their fifth victory over the Ottawa Senators. This is the first time since 1995-96 that the Sabres have won five games against the Senators in a season. Tyler Ennis had two goals for the Sabres to bring his total up to 17 goals on the season which is 7th in the league among rookies this season. Ennis' 43 points is third behind Jeff Skinner and Logan Couture. Brad Boyes, Thomas Vanek, Paul Gaustad, and Nathan Gerbe had the rest of the goals for the Sabres.
For Ottawa, Jason Spezza had registered a point on each of the Senators goals with two goals and two assists. Spezza is second on the team in points with 39 points behind Erik Karlsson and second on the team in goals with 15 behind Milan Michalek. Colin Greening and Erik Karlsson had the other goals for the Senators.
Jhonas Enroth got his first win in regulation making 34 saves on 38 shots. Enroth was the first goaltender in history to register his first three wins coming via the shootout and Enroth's fourth win came in overtime. Craig Anderson made 13 saves on 17 shots before being pulled for Curtis McElhenney who made 14 saves on 16 shots.
