Zack Kassian and Marcus Foligno have had impressive tournaments in the World Junior Championships in Buffalo. Foligno has two goals in five games and making noise with some great shots and big hits including this big hit against Sweden on Friday:
The Sabres seem to be happy with Foligno's progression and has 33 points in 28 games with the Sudbury Wolves this season. At 19, this will be Foligno's last season with the Wolves and barring an impressive training camp, will be with the Portland Pirates next season.
Zack Kassian impressed many in his first preseason game with his willingness to throw the body around. That hasn't changed in the World Junior Championships as Kassian was suspended for two games due to a illegal check to the head against the Czech Republic:
Kassian was sent back to Windsor to grow some aspects of his game and is poised to make a run at the Sabres's roster next season with a good training camp.
The Canadians beat the Swiss last night 4-1 and will take on the Americans at 7:30 pm for the right to face the Russians in the Gold Medal Game. The last time these two teams met, it was the gold medal game in 2010 and John Carlson, a member of the Washington Capitals, scored the game winning goal in overtime. The Americans and Canadians have won the last seven gold medals.
Consider this an open thread for the US/Canada game tonight
