One of the elder statesmen on the teams is also one of the newest players on the Sabres roster. Rob Niedermayer signed on July 7th and became the second oldest player on the roster. Niedermayer has 16 seasons in the NHL and brings with him one Stanley Cup ring. Niedermayer has a total of 181 goals and 450 points, but his offensive production was not the reason that the team brought him on the team. His leadership and veteran presence in the lineup will help the younger players and the core players to become better leaders.

Niedermayer has been an ironman since the lockout, playing in no less than 71 games in a season in the last five seasons. Niedermayer is a solid player that has some offensive skill that he has shown in his career and even in the first preseason game with the Sabres. While most of Niedermayer's qualities can't be quantified with statistics, his play won't be considered a liability.
