2010-2011 Player Outlook: Nathan Gerbe

New, comments

One would expect that Nathan Gerbe will make the Buffalo Sabres roster this year, the question is where does he fit on the team. Gerbe could play the role of the 13th forward in the press box, but that would be under utilizing his skills and those may be best served in Portland if he is going to sit. The other scenario is that he could take over a position from an under performing player who has yet to be determined. How Nathan Gerbe fits on the Sabres this season will ultimately depend on his play in the next two weeks as he battles for a spot during training camp.

Gerbe is a good player that plays larger than his 5' 6" frame. He has been apart of a NCAA National Championship team with Boston College and he has put roughly up a point per game, 94 points in 101 games, during his two seasons in Portland. During Gerbe's trial runs with the Sabres, he had 6 points (2+4) in 20 games over two seasons with the team and had another 2 points (1+1) in two playoff appearances.

Gerbe is going to be a good player on this team that wont play the whole season due to lack of space on the roster. Some player will underachieve or be injured and Gerbe will be a suitable replacement. If Gerbe makes the team outright, he should slot on the third line projected with Niedermayer and Grier which when you look at Gerbe, almost seems like a waste.
