The Daily Links For March 27: The Playoff Edition

New, comments

The Buffalo Sabres are going to the playoffs. That has a really nice ring to it... the Buffalo Sabres are going to the playoffs. There was a time, not too long ago, when just making the playoffs would not be enough to satisfy me. This season it is sweet to know the team will play beyond the end of the regular season on April 11.

I tried my best to fit in as many links as possible so I could live up to the expectations of Andy but fear not, Andy will be back tomorrow.

Postseason spot secure for Sabres after blowout win : Buffalo Sabres : The Buffalo News
This win was as much about Patrick Lalime as it was about the the team clinching a playoff berth. As good as Ryan Miller has been this entire the season, everyone was genuinely happy that it was Lalime in goal to backstop the Sabres to their clinching victory.

Buffalo returned to the playoffs for the first time since 2007 with a rout of Tampa Bay. Patrick Lalime stopped 22 shots for his 200th NHL victory. NHL.com did a story on all the teams that clinched the playoffs last night and the Sabres were one of those teams.

A View from the Roost: The Clincher | The Goose's Roost

The Roost has a great look at the Sabres victory and subsequently clinching the playoffs. We are all feeling good about the Sabres right now and this adds a perspective to the discussion.

That Was Exciting. " The Fanatical Fan

The Fanatical Fan has a recap of the game last night against Tampa. I found one quote to be particularly interesting. "I still think they'll get swept in the first round, but at least they'll be going". That seems to be the sentiment of many Sabres fans and it makes me wonder what the team has to do to make people believe they are a good team. They are in 3rd place in the East and have a legitimate shot at the #2 seed. When will people believe in the Sabres?

Brad Eidsness and the North Dakota Fighting Sioux were upset by Yale sending the Sioux home earlier than anyone expected. The game will be replayed on ESPNU at noon today. I have every intention of watching it to see how Eidsness played because the stats don't look good.

Portland Pirates - Game Summary
The Portland Pirates are truly the "Baby Sabres". Earlier in the week the Sabres had to battle from behind to beat the Montreal Canadiens and on Saturday the Pirates scored two late goals to be the Springfield Falcons. Nathan Gerbe scored the game winning goal and earned first star, he could soon be in the Sabres lineup with the injury to Thomas Vanek.

Video: When minor league coaches go wild starring Jim Playfair - Puck Daddy - NHL Blog - Yahoo! Sports
Like father like son. Apparently Jamie Koharski took referee lessons from his father because he absolutely blew this call in Abbotsford. The bad call did prompt a rather amusing tantrum from Jim Playfair behind the Abbotsford bench.
