Sabres 3 Avalanche 4 SO: Third Period Comeback Leads to Shootout Loss

Why can't the Sabres play a full 60 minutes?

It seems that is the question of the ages and the Sabres recent opponents are asking themselves the same question. The Sabres had a six game winning streak snapped last night but I can't remember the last time they played a good game from the opening faceoff until the final horn sounds. During the streak they had plenty of comebacks like we seen last night and we had games like Friday when they jumped out to 3-0 lead and eventually held on for a 3-2 victory.

There are plenty of positives to take from the loss in the marathon 11 round shootout. Once again the Sabres earned a point with Patrick Lalime in goal and once again the Sabres came from behind in the third period. It would be great if they could play well for an entire game but it is comforting to know that there is no quit in this team.

Another positive for the Sabres is the balanced goal scoring. On Saturday it was Drew Stafford getting the Sabres on the board and Thomas Vanek and Jochen Hect leading the comeback. Vanek now leads the team with 12 goals and Hecht became the seventh Sabres player to reach 10 on the season.
