Game Day Preview: Buffalo Sabres vs. Ottawa Senators

New, comments

The Mikael Tellqvist era has begun.  Tellqvist should start tonight against the Senators giving Lalime a break after starting 10 straight games.  Tellqvist is 7-5-2 this season with a .905 SV% and 2.88 GAA.  His career against the Senators is a total of 36 minutes played and a 5.04 GAA.

As for the rest of the Sabres, they blew their chance at gaining some ground on Saturday night when the Thrashers scored with three seconds left in regulation.  The team overall is playing scared.  They are playing to not lose games not to win them.  The main issue though is that they are playing inconsistent.  Sometimes the goaltending is on but the defense and offense are off.  Other days its the offense and not the goaltending.  This team couldn't play a full 60 minute game from all areas if their life depended on it.

Their opponent tonight are the Senators.  A team that has beaten the Sabres four out of the five times they have faced each other.  The combined score has been 19-12.  Brian Elliott will be in net for the Senators.  Elliott has won the last three games against the Sabres and played fairly well in those games.  The Senators have won five of their last six games and have played much better under interim coach Cory Clouston.

The Sabres need the points tonight and need some help from the other teams playing.  For this team to guarantee themselves a spot in the playoffs they should go 11-2 in the last 13.  To get to the magical 92 point mark, they need to go 8-5.  Games like this should be games that are won.
