Game Day Preview: Anaheim Ducks vs. Buffalo Sabres

New, comments

Tonight's game is going to be a very important game for the Sabres on many different fronts.  The first major question that should be answered tonight is how are the Sabres going to respond heading into their first game without Miller?  Lalime played against the Ducks when they met at Honda Center at the beginning of the month and allowed 3 goals on 37 shots.  While he got the loss, he played fairly well in front of a fairly tired and weak defense.  Tonight's performance should be much better.

The Sabres are also being questioned by many on how tough they actually are.  This game is going to be the perfect game to showcase that considering the last time these two teams met they combined for 64 penalty minutes and three fights.  For some reason, these two teams really don't like each other and it shows when they play.

On the Anaheim side of things, the Ducks have lost three of their last five and are sitting in the 10th spot in the conference, one point behind 8th.  Jean-Sebastien Giguere has struggled this season going 15-15-4 with a 3.12 GAA.  He has at times lost the starting gig to backup Jonas Hiller a handful of times.

There have been trade rumors swirling around a handful of Ducks players including star defensemen Pronger and Niedermayer.  The Ducks have shown that they can compete with the team they have but with the log jam that is the Western Conference one slip and you could find yourself at the bottom staring up.  Both of these teams will play desperate hockey because both need points in the worst way.

Game time is 7pm at HSBC Arena.  For those not going to the game, you get to hear the wonderful soundings of whoever Versus tagged to do this game.  Great.
