It could have been termed a meaningless game, after all the Sabres were already eliminated and the Bruins have already clinched, I prefer to call it a feel good game. Everyone likes to win and what a long summer it would be if Buffalo had lost their last two games of the season. On the flip side the Bruins have been widely inconsistent lately and a win would help them build some confidence going into the playoffs. It was Buffalo that prevailed in a less than spirited contest between two teams that played like it was a meaningless game.
I'll have much, much more regarding the season over the next couple of days and weeks but for tonight I'll limit it to tonights game. Thomas Vanek scored all three Buffalo goals including an empty-netter to seal the game and Jocelyn Thibault earned his second shutout of the season. In fairness Boston seemed completely disinterested and had their eyes on a more important game they will be playing next week. Boston managed only 17 shots on goal and never really amounted anything that could be termed as a threat.
It was the last time we will see this team, as it is currently assembled, take the ice and it was still good to see them win. There will be many players who will not be returning and there may be some new faces on this team as well. As we transition into off season mode here at Die by the Blade there will be plenty in store. I will be recapping the season, breaking down the roster, talking about free agency, talking about some of the greatest players in Sabres history and making the transition to the new SB Nation platform.
