Sabres hopes

I took a couple of days away to really determine where the Buffalo Sabres sit and whether or not they have a legitimate chance at making the playoffs this season.  It's been two days and I haven't made a decision yet.  At the time I'm writing this my poll has 25 votes, four people think the Sabres can make the playoffs (I admire your courage but I'm not sure you are right), 19 people believe the Sabres will miss the playoffs and two people are undecided.  I was one of the people who were undecided.

I am came to my decision to not make a decision pretty easily.  The fact of the matter is that they are probably going to miss the playoffs but I am having trouble coming to grips with that reality.  This is the same franchise that played in the Eastern Conference Finals the previous two seasons and now they face the real possibility that they are two weeks away from golfing.  I do envy the fact that they will have an opportunity to be golfing while I'm sure to be freezing my ass off but come on guys, we have grown used to watching hockey until summer.

Is it out of the realm of possibility that this team makes the playoffs? NO but it is growing more unlikely by the day.  It was a really bad weekend for the Sabres and their fans with all the teams in the hunt figuring out a way to get points.  Hell even the Bruins figured out a way to get a point against Montreal despite losing to them all 80... errr... 8 times this season.  Buffalo is currently in 10th place three points behind the Bruins for 8th place and one point behind the Capitals for 9th.  The Sabres have seven games remaining including a tough schedule this week.  They play a home-and-home with the Senators tomorrow and Thursday before taking on the Northeast Division leaders the Montreal Canadiens.

I posted a poll last week on whether or not the Sabres could make the playoffs and the results were overwhelmingly in favor of nay.  I didn't hear any reasons why though, if you could post your comments as to why the Sabres missed the playoffs it would be greatly appreciated.  In addition I wonder what your thoughts were about this team before the season began, did you think they had no chance without Drury and Briere?  Did you think they would be alright?  I'd love to hear your responses.
