 Game #5

Buffalo Sabres 2 vs. Atlanta Thrashers 3  SO

Unfortunately I was unable to see any of the games this weekend but the Sabres came away from a back-to-back situation with three points.  I predicted a let down on the road against the Thrashers and that was certainly the case in the first period.  It was nice to see that they came back and earned point instead of a complete let down.

It's amazing to see what has happened for this team through the first five days.  They have been great defensively and appear to have two goalies that are capable of winning on any given night.  Lalime has already started twice and he actually leads the NHL in save percentage.  He stopped 35 shots against the Thrashers to help the Sabres earn a point.

The other big story has to be the amazing start by both Thomas Vanek and Ales Kotalik.  Vanek leads the league with seven goals in only five games and he has a new dimension to his game playing on the penalty kill.  Kotalik has started the season with four goals, including two power play goals.  Kotalik is a free agent after the season, when is it too soon to try to re-sign him?
