Last Friday the Buffalo Sabres began their season with a 2-1 shootout win against the Montreal Canadiens. Tonight the Sabres will return home for a game against the Vancouver Canucks. It will be the first time the Sabres will face a Western Confereence team this season.

The Sabres made a commitment to defense in the off-season and through three games it has paid off. They added Craig Rivet and Teppo Numminen returned from his heart condition but it hasn't been just two players that have made the difference. It is obvious the entire team has made a commitment to defense and it shows in the standings.
