In their last attempt before the All Star break the Sabres finally win a game. It wasn't just any win either, they beat the first place Dallas Stars 2-1. Even more impressive was the game was played in Dallas. The Sabres played pretty well in their own end although they allowed some huge opportunities in the final moments. Jochen Hecht made the save of the game in the final seconds on Mike Ribiero who had the whole net to shoot at.
The line of Vanek-Roy-Stafford was outstanding in the victory. They scored the Sabres only two goals and dominated the entire game. Vanek still struggles to find the net but he showed that he can do more than just score goals. The return of Roy was huge for this team and they proved that tonight. The defensive pairing of Lydman and Tallinder continue to struggle although Lydman did block around four shots tonight.
The Sabres will take a little break along with the rest of the league while the all stars will play in Atlanta on Sunday. The Sabres next game will be next Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
