Memorable Moments of 2007

It's a little bit late because we are already two days into 2008 but here is a look back at the 10 most memorable moments of 2007.

10.  Danny Briere, Brian Campbell and Ryan Miller are all starters for the 2007 All Star Game

The Sabres Danny Briere scored two goals in the third period including the game winner as the East beat the West 4-3.  Briere was named the MVP of the All Star Game.

9.  Tim Connolly returns to the lineup for the final two regular season games.

Tim Connolly missed the entire season with Post Concussion Syndrome but he returned to play the final two regular season games and the playoffs.  In his first game back he managed to a score a goal against the Washington Capitals.

8.  The NHL announces the Winter Classic will take place in Buffalo

The NHL announced that they would hold a regular season game at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park.  It would be the first time the NHL would hold a regular season game outdoors in the United States.

7.  Sabres trade Martin Biron to the Philadelphia Flyers

It was a long time coming but the Buffalo Sabres finally traded backup goalie Martin Biron.  Biron was hoping to become a starting goalie and the Sabres finally granted him his wish.  If not for salary cap issues the Sabres probably would have hung on to Biron till the end of the season but they used his salary to acquire Dainius Zubrus from the Capitals.

6.  Sabres and Penguins practice outdoors at Ralph Wilson Stadium

In preparation for the Winter Classic on January 1, 2008 the Sabres and Penguins both had an opportunity to practice on the ice at Ralph Wilson Stadium.  The event was televised on the NHL Network.

5.  The Sabres match seven year $50 million offer to Thomas Vanek

The Sabres matched the Edmonton Oilers seven year $50 million offer to Thomas Vanek.  The Sabres held a press conference to announce they were matching the offer and said they would attempt to sign an Oilers restricted free agent in the future.

4.  Sabres win Presidents Trophy

The Presidents Trophy had never been won by the Buffalo Sabres until 2007.  The Presidents Trophy is awarded to the NHL team who has the most regular season points.  It was an impressive feet for the Sabres who have had many good teams throughout the years but had never won the Presidents Trophy.

3.  Chris Drury scores with 7.7 seconds left against the Rangers

If you're a Sabres fan, you certainly remember this.  Drury tied the game at one with 7.7 seconds left and Max Afinogenov scored in overtime to give the Sabres a 3-2 series lead over the Rangers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

2.  Chris Neil's hit on Chris Drury

This doesn't need any introduction.  If you remember the memory above than you certainly remember this as well.  It was not only the hit that made this memorable but everything that went along with it.  Lindy Ruff and Brian Murray appeared ready to jump on the opponents bench and fight, they instead opted for a verbal battle.  Ruff immediately sent out his tough guys and an all out brawl ensued.  The most memorable battle was that of Andrew Peters and Ray Emery.

1.  Chris Drury and Danny Briere leave via free agency

This has been talked about more than the Winter Classic was/is.  This will never go away until the Sabres win the Stanley Cup or those two guys retire.  If I was betting man I would say it will be when they retire.  Management took a lot of heat for the departure of  Drury and Briere, so much so they had to hold a press conference to discuss what went wrong.
