The Sabres 10 game winless streak cam eto an end last night with a 10-1 victory over the surging Atlanta Thrashers but I'm very angry. There are some things that drive me crazy and last night was one of those nights. For those of you that aren't aware of my other activities, I also broadcast games for the Jamestown Vikings of the MAHL. I was broadcasting last night and had big plans to watch the Sabres game at a later time, of course they announce the damn score. The Sabres score 10 friggin goals and I can't even enjoy the game.
I missed a game when the Sabres scored 10 goals in a game for the first time since January 14, 2006 in a 10-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. I missed a game when the Sabres had two players score hat tricks. Derek Roy and Drew Stafford both had hat tricks, the first time the Sabres accomplished that feat since Jochen Hecht and Jason Pominville did it in the 10-1 victory over the Kings back in 2006. There are plenty of similarities between the game in 2006 and the game last night. The Sabres beat Edmonton 3-1 in the game following that victory two seasons ago we'll have to wait and see what happens tonight.
Daniel Paille started off the scoring by swatting a puck out of mid air and into the Thrashers net just 1:54 into the game. That goal started out the record night for the Sabres. The second goal was a stroke of luck, the puck caromed off a partition in the glass and directly in front of the net to Stafford and Stafford buried into the net. The Sabres just poured it on after that ended their 10 game winless streak. The 10 goal outburst came as a surprise to everyone with Buffalo scoring only 16 goals in the previous 10 games.
The Sabres will try to build upon last nights success against the Leafs tonight at 7PM. The game will be featured throughout Canada on Hockey Night in Canada.
