The Buffalo Sabres finally looked like last years Sabres as they beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 7-2. The combination of Derek Roy and Thomas Vanek were payed handsomely in the offseason and at least for one night they lived up to the hype. Roy netted a hat trick and also had three assists and Vanek added a goal and three assists. If this is any indication as to how they will play in the regular season, it appears that Darcy Regier once again made the right decision.
The Sabres dominated the game from start to finish scoring just 1:24 into the game when Henrik Tallinder beat Vesa Toskala. The Sabres had a 4-0 lead before Toronto cut the lead to 4-2. The Sabres quickly ended the Leafs threat by scoring three more goals for the eventual 7-2 victory.
The Sabres will be back in action on Friday in Pittsburgh against the Penguins and will conclude their pre-season schedule at HSBC Arena on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
