Background

Mair was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fourth round (#87 overall) in the 1997 NHL entry draft but never really had an opportunity to play spending most of his time with the St. John's Maple Leafs.  While playing with St. John's Mair had a couple of good seasons scoring 22 goals and 49 points in 1999-2000 and 18 goals and 45 points in 2000-2001.  The Maple Leafs eventually traded him to the Kings at the trade deadline in 2001 for defenseman Aki Berg.  Mair became an everyday player after joining the Buffalo Sabres.

Scouting Report

Mair is a player who plays a very physical style of hockey.  His style was a perfect fit for the Sabres who have mostly fast skilled forwards who do not play very physical.  Mair does have a little bit of offensively talent but is asked to play physical on a team in desperate need of it.
