Prospect Profile: Ben Breault

Name: Benjamin Breault
Position: Center
Shoots: Left
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 177 lbs.
Birth date: 2/21/1988
Age: 19
Hometown: Pembroke, Ontario
acquired: 7th round(#207 overall) in 2006 draft

Background

Breault has had a great career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playing for Baie-Comeau Drakkar.  He was drafted #4 overall in the 2004 QMJHL draft and after a rather inconsistent first season he has fit in well in Baie Comeau.  He lasted until the seventh round of the 2006 draft where he was scooped up by the very willing Buffalo Sabres.

Scouting Report

Breault has all the tools to play in the NHL.  He is a great skater who has good vision and always seems to find the net.  In addition to being a great offensive player Breault has the ability to cover in the defensive zone as well.

Performance

2006-2007 Baie-Comeau Drakkar: (regular season) 65GP-40G-40A-80P
2006-2007 Baie-Comeau Drakkar: (post-season) 11GP-4G-7A-11P

Future

I would expect Breault to play at least one more season in the "Q" before the Sabres try to sign him.  After next season the Sabres will evaluate the play of Breault and decide whether or not to make an offer.  If signed he will probably spend a season or two developing his skills in Rochester before getting the opportunity to join the Sabres.  The early prognosis says that Breault will be a top six forward and quite possibly a star.
