The NHL is set to release the schedule on Wednesday for the 2007-2008 season. It is nothing like when the NFL announces their schedule with an hour long special on the NFL Network but this year could prove to be exciting for Sabres fans. WGR 55 is reporting that the Sabres will be playing the Penguins at Ralph Wilson Stadium on New Years Day.
(WGR 550) - Multiple NHL sources have told WGR that the Sabres are in line for a potential New Year's Day game at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
Another source, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the Penguins have agreed to be the visiting team for such a contest, with Buffalo and Detroit as possible homes. It's also reporting that NBC is tentatively calling the event, "The Ice Bowl."
How cool would that be for an outdoor hockey game to be played in Buffalo? How many people would be at that game? I think they could probably sell out the Ralph with the people who would travel from Pittsburgh to see the game as well. I'm not sure how fun it would be to try to watch a hockey game from the top of the stadium but I bet people would do it.
As far as the rest of the schedule is concerned I'll have much more tomorrow when it's released but a few highlights are that Jay McKee will come to play in Buffalo. If number one pick Patrick Kane is able to crack the Blackhawks roster he will have an opportunity to play in his hometown. The Sabres escaped a west coast trip last season but will travel this year taking on the Pacific Division... including the Stanley Cup Champion Anaheim Ducks.
