[open thread] Sabres vs. Ducks

Time: 10:00 TV: MSG(HD) Radio: WGR55

It's a late night edition of the open thread.  Gametime tonight is 10pm which is well after most Sabres fans have already gone to bed.  I'll be here and watching the game so feel free to join me.

It's not very often the Sabres get to play the Ducks, although that will change starting next season.  This game is a contest between two teams who were outstanding last season, with the Sabres winning the Presidents Trophy while the Ducks won the Stanley Cup, but both teams have struggled in the early going this season.  The biggest story coming out of this game however is the battle of the brothers.  Ryan Miller will get an opportunity to play against his brother Drew tonight and I'm sure there will be some good natured ribbing between the two.

The key to the game for the Sabres will be the power play.  The Sabres come in with the 7th ranked power play in the league while the Ducks are the most penalized team in the league.  That sounds like a recipe for victory but bear in mind the Sabres drop to the 15th ranked power play on the road.  This is probably the biggest cause for the Sabres losing record on the road.

{Update 6:56 PM EST}  It appears that Scott Niedermayer is coming back to play this season.  The Ducks are going to have a press conference at 6:30 PM PST/ 9:30 PM EST.
