[open thread] Sabres vs. Islanders

The Buffalo Sabres are coming off of a frustrating 4-1 loss to the Boston Bruins. Alex Auld made 44 saves for the Bruins who were out-shot 45-21 by the Sabres. Jaro Spacek scored the only goal for the Sabres in the game. The Sabres have been losers of three of their last four games including losing two of three on a recent West Coast trip. Ryan Miller injured his ankle in the loss to Boston and it is not known if he will play tonight.
The Islanders have struggled to score goals of late and are in last place in the Atlantic Division. I would anticipate the Islanders will come into the game with some confidence having swept the Sabres in a home and home series to begin the season. The Islanders have scored only 38 goals in 28 games while 5-on-5. They have won only once once in their last five games sporting a 1-3-1 record in the Month of December.

Scoring
That goal light had better be going crazy tonight! Some great chances so far, but they need to score.

Once again
chances but no goal

Rob Ray
That man's comments never cease to crack me up. I'm sure he would have attempted to "chop off" DiPietro's head if he had the chance. Ha! At least we can laugh while we wait for a goal.

Another
big save...Miller looks good tonight. He wasn't happy with his play against Boston and he's proving his worth tonight so far
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 7:31 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Miller
He definitely is on tonight. He usually keeps the Sabres in the game, but on his best nights, he can stop pretty much everything.

Wow
this some fast action

Alright
lets do something with the power play now and get a good lead.
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 7:41 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
That's
a bullshit call...all he did was lift the stick and that sally couldn't hang on to it
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 7:42 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
that
was also a weak call
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 7:43 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
That was
a very entertaining period of hockey, although I'm guessing Lindy will tell them to be a little more responsible in their own zone
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 7:47 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
ok
this time they have to score on the power play
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 8:07 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
going to work
your mother will be on after her card game

That is a huge goal after a lackluster power play
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 8:10 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
SCORE!
2-0! Nice, nice work there!
by Sabres Center Ice on Dec 12, 2007 8:11 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
YES!!!!
3-0 is real big right now
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 8:12 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
3-0
Kotalik!!! Very nice play there: Aggressive playing style and it pays off!
by Sabres Center Ice on Dec 12, 2007 8:13 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
5-on-3
they need to kill this off or they will let them right back into the game
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 8:15 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
of all people
they have to let Satan score
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 8:16 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Ugh
Stupid Satan. You said it D.O.: Why Satan?! At least Miller didn't let that get to him.
by Sabres Center Ice on Dec 12, 2007 8:20 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Nice!
Awesome pass by Kotalik, and an even better deflection by ROy!
by Sabres Center Ice on Dec 12, 2007 8:24 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Still on the power play
good pass by Kotalik and a great tip in by Roy. The Sabres needed to be able to score goals tonight after the way things went on Monday
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 8:24 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
i like
to see them play like this more shot's on net and not all that pass pass pass waiting for the perfect shot
by qdloser on Dec 12, 2007 8:28 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Passing vs. Shooting
Good point, D.O. They are finding a nice medium between setting up decent passes and taking many shots. It's paid off and worked so far! Quite a good game tonight, as everyone seems to be working together and staying aware of what they're supposed to be doing.
by Sabres Center Ice on Dec 12, 2007 8:33 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
he only
got that because kotalik was off balance on that shot good play though
by qdloser on Dec 12, 2007 8:37 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Damn...
this game is far from over right now. They need to get a couple more goals at this pace
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 8:39 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Ugh
That was a disaster. Miller is fired. Not really, but what in the world happened there?
by Sabres Center Ice on Dec 12, 2007 9:07 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Are you kidding
me...what the hell are they doing. The Islanders are the worst scoring team in the league and we let them score three already
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 9:08 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
darn
i don't know what i did but i'm fiannly back
by qdloser on Dec 12, 2007 9:14 PM EST reply actions 0 recs

by qdloser on Dec 12, 2007 9:15 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Score
that was a weak one by Dipietro
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 9:15 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Jochen Hecht!
Nice goal!!! Definitely needed at this point of the game!
by Sabres Center Ice on Dec 12, 2007 9:15 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
thats
not a goal
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 9:18 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
not sure
maybe nine seconds
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 9:21 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
They're
gonna have to kill this or I don't think we are going to like the final results of this game
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 9:23 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Weak Penalty
Yeah, that really wasn't much of a penalty. Awesome save by Miller!
by Sabres Center Ice on Dec 12, 2007 9:25 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
so now
we'll keep miller again jessica is that what your saying
by qdloser on Dec 12, 2007 9:27 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
how come
no penalty there just as weak as our's
by qdloser on Dec 12, 2007 9:33 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
This has been an ugly period
is it just me or has the play in this game gone downhill as we've moved along
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 9:33 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Miller
Ha! I always end up "firing" someone or other each game, but they're always welcome back once they do something nice. I have the strangest ideas when watching these games. It's worked so far, though: I fire someone, and he ends up doing something amazing the next game. Superstition? Maybe. But at the end of the day, I love everyone on the team.

Good power play
especially with a two goal lead, late in the game
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 9:38 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Big win
every point counts right now. We need two more in Washington
by David Oleksy on Dec 12, 2007 9:40 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Good Win
That was a little rough near the end of the period, but I liked how the Sabres played. It was nice talking with both of you!
