After draft moves by Tim Murray have us going in the right direction

After the draft and the Ehroff buyout Murray has us on the path to building a team that will compete soon. Just looking at the moves made in free agency, it seems like there is a plan in place... While none of the moves made will scream WOW!! They are quite balanced with a look to the future...

Gionta... Signed for 3 years at just over 4 mil per year. Not as dynamic as he was in his youth, Gionta will bring a well rounded game to the table for us. Being a former "C" and around for over 10 years in the NHL... He should be able to show the way to our young players. Add on that playing for us is a dream... well that only reassures me that his heart will be in the right place here.

Gorges... Picked up from Montreal for Minny's second round pick in 2016. Solid defenseman in the stay at home mold... this move is very similar to the one of bringing on Regehr. Although Gorges knows we wont be competing in his first two years here... there is a good chance he can contribute to a playoff run in years 3 and 4 of whats left of his contract. Love the fact that he not only snubbed the Leafs but also the Bruins. Stayed loyal to a good friend in Gionta too... Just the kind of person for some of our young D to look up to...

Moulson... Most would consider him the "gem" of our off season. Adds an offensive presence to our line up that has been missing since....well when we traded him. Love to see that he wanted to come back, and love to see some real talent added to our roster. Another player that should be able to contribute to a playoff run in 2 to 3 years... hopefully he can help a couple of our young guys with the ins and outs of scoring dirty goals in the NHL.

McCormick... The least favorite of Murray's offseason plan for me... but for those who want a guy who "can play too" for their enforcer, well here it is. A guy who knows his role and plays hard... can go back and forth to Rochester if needed and can play all 3 forward positions. For a team with heaps of bottom 6 talent a little redundant... Murray must want to keep some of our younger grinders in Rochester for a tad bit longer...

All in all I like the diversity of the moves and the fact that there is a plan in place. Got to the cap floor without giving out a complete joke of a contract and adding guys who will help teach the younger players. Also adding a few who can help when we finally get on the winning path again. Looking forward to whatever else Murray has up his sleeve.
