My Team: Sure to Finish Last But Remain Competitive

Okay folks, it's been a while since I wrote one of these so I thought I'd share my vision for the team this coming season.

Before I get to the roster, here are my picks for this year's draft (my June Mock Draft will be posted after the conclusion of the Stanley Cup Finals).

Draft Picks

Round 1 (2nd Overall): Samson Reinhart, C, Kootenay (WHL)

Round 2 (31st Overall): Eric Cornel, C, Peterborough (OHL)

Round 2 (39th Overall): Nicholas Magyar, RW, Kitchener (OHL)

Round 2 (49th Overall): Ryan Collins, D, USA NTDP (USHL)

Round 3 (61st Overall): Shane Eiserman, LW, Dubuque (USHL)

Round 5 (121st Overall): Brandon Halverson, G, Sault Ste Marie (OHL)

Round 6 (151st Overall): Alex Lintuniemi, D, Ottawa (OHL)

Round 7 (181st Overall): Tanner Faith, D, Kootenay (WHL)

As far as the draft goes, I like the 4-3-1 plan right now. Four high quality forwards, 3 solid defensemen with size, and a goaltender.

Roster Background

Now, on to the roster. I built the team so we finish in the bottom 3 guaranteed (at least, I think so), while bringing in several competent, yet average-at-best veteran Free Agents. Mixing these veterans with the current core of very young players allows for, in my opinion, better team chemistry and better development for the younger players.
