Last night while watching the fantastic Game 7 out West, I was struck by something one of the announcers said during the third – Kopitar had no shots, and no points, in the game at that time. I kind of shook my head and thought ‘What? Isn’t this a guy people are claiming is in the Top 10 in the game?’ So I thought about who I would put in my Top 10. It’s actually tougher than you think. People can easily spout off about ‘X is a Top 10 player’ but putting it down on a list is actually fairly difficult. I really struggled going down from 13 to 10.
Here’s Mine (order subject to my whim):
6 of 10 are, of course, centermen. All of these guys can change the outcome game in a variety of ways (except Lundqvist, who can change the game in one MAJOR way), play both ends of the ice well, are highly skilled, physically capable of imposing their will, play a ton of minutes and in all situations, and outright dominate for stretches of, or entire, games.
As the Sabres are getting closer to drafting a top talent in a few weeks, and we are all hopeful that a) this year’s top pick will contend for Top 10 overall accolades someday, and b) that next year’s picks will do so as well, at the moment who is on YOUR Top 10 players in the game list?
