Trade for and Buy-out Cam Ward.

Cam Ward is done in Carolina.

He's smack bang in the middle of the venn diagram of Big contract and Poor Performance.

My proposal is this.

To BUF: Cam Ward, Jeff Skinner and 37th overall

To CAR: Matt Hackett, Luke Adam, a reasonably good prospect and 49th Overall

Adam has had his shot here, a change in scenery might help and he's more or less NHL ready. Hackett is the odd man out, traded for by the last GM and seemingly got passed over by Liuewen who is likely number #3 behind Enroth who will duo with Neiverth going forward. Going into a draft with many picks, that depth chart is going to get crowded so you can afford to deal a prospect or two that might not fit the GM's bill moving forward.

the plan on the Sabres end being,

Buy out Ward.

Keep Skinner. The team could use a scorer... he also helps on the quest get to the cap floor. He isn't without his question marks, a good article over on Canes country has a look at his numbers. I personally think it would be worth taking a shot, especially when we're playing for the 2015 draft anyway, so why not right...

Use the pair of high 2nd's to deal for another 1st.
